Cream Cheese filling:
- 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 egg
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
Beat all ingredients in small mixer bowl, scraping bowl occasionally, about 2 minutes.
Batter Mix:
- 1 cup butter or margarine
- 4 squares (1 oz each)
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 eggs
- 2 t vanilla
- 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1/2 t salt
- 1 c coarsely chopped nuts
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease oblong pan, 13X9. Prepare cream cheese filling.
Heat butter and chocolate in small saucepan over low heat, stirring occasionally, until melted; cool.
Beat chocolate mixture, sugar, eggs and vanilla in large mixer bowl on medium speed, scraping the bowl occasionally, about 1 minute. Beat in flour and salt on low speeed, about one minute. Stir in nuts.
Spread half of the dough in pan and then spread with cream cheese filling. Gently spread remaining dough over cream cheese filling. Gently swirl through dough with spoon in an over-under motion for marbled effect.
Bake until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean, 45-50 minutes. Cool; cut into bars, about 1 1/2 X 1 inch. 64 bars.
